QUESTION: Question for the "King of Detroit Kids TV"... What is the scat song that Pookie sings at the start of his appearances on the Soupy Sales show?
Scott Westerman
Albuquerque, NM
ED: That would be "Mumbles" by The Oscar Peterson Trio and sung by Clark Terry,
whose nickname was "Mumbles" because of his unusual scat style.
(Thanks to John Townsend for the additional information on this answer.)

QUESTION: Regarding the theme song for
Milky's Movie Party....I'm not sure if it was Milky's
"main theme" or the theme for the Willy Dooit
segment, but I recall a song related to classical music.
I heard it once since played over the speakers at a
local grocery store in California, but I can't remember
the name. Can you help?
Patti Grantner
ED: The musical piece used for the show was
"Fiddle Faddle" by Leroy Anderson.

NEVADA-DETROITERS UPDATE
WHAT ARE THE ODDS OF SEEING THIS IN LAS VEGAS?
So, I'm pulling out of a parking space in the jam-packed lot at the Orleans hotel
in LV on Sunday evening (8/23) on my way to meet two former Detroiters, and
I noticed the license plates of the car parked across from me (above).
Unbelieveable. It took this as an omen for me to gamble my entire 401(k).
I met J.C. Simon (Nativity '67) and Elizabeth Lowe (Tecumsah)
Occasionally I receive emails I feel would be of interest
to our Detroit Memories Newsletter subscribers.

SMOKEY CELEBRATES 50 YEARS
BY GAIL MITCHELL
BILLBOARD MAGAZINE
The songs alone speak volumes. "Shop Around." "You've Really Got a Hold on Me." "Ooo Baby Baby." "The Tracks of My Tears." "I Second That Emotion."
"The Tears of a Clown." "My Guy." "My Girl." "Cruisin'." "Being With You."
These are just a handful of the classics written and, in many cases, uniquely interpreted by William "Smokey" Robinson, who was born and raised in Detroit.
The singer-songwriter is celebrating his 50th anniversary in music this year,
as is the iconic label Motown Records. On the eve of the release of Robinson's
new studio album, "Time Flies When You're Having Fun," on his own
ROBSO Records, Billboard talked to the man behind the beloved tunes.
